Buy steel through Brother Bishop at the Royal Foundry; reserve quest ingots before building the Steel Anvil chain.

Find the Royal Foundry and its steel dialogue
Progress the town battles and story until you can reach the bathhouse area. The Royal Foundry is beneath it, with Brother Bishop and the monks. Follow Jack's Man of Steel dialogue and ask the Bishop about his furnace or steel supply. The steel purchase is a conversation choice rather than a normal merchant inventory window.
- Check Jack's active steel quest before travelling.
- Enter the Royal Foundry beneath the bathhouse and speak to Brother Bishop.
- Choose the steel-supply dialogue and read the quantity and coin amount.
- Buy the smallest lot that covers your current task, then verify Steel Ingots in your inventory.
- Return to Jack for the requested hand-in before spending those ingots on tools.
Use the dialogue price, not the reference price
The filmed supply menu offers lots of 1, 10, 50 and 100 and shows one silver per ingot in that recording. The local item export has a 10-silver base-price field, which is not the price of this scripted dialogue. Read the coin amount your own menu will deduct rather than budgeting from the generic item field.
Do not buy a large lot just because it is available. Keep enough money for the next quest and inspect the supply dialogue again when you actually need more. The video demonstrates that purchase route; it is not proof of every future patch's pricing.

The technology unlocks recipes and a blueprint; it does not supply their ingredients or automatically build the anvil. Tool and weapon recipes have additional research, mastery and extension requirements. For example, Steel Instruments I sits after Steel Smithing, and the axe recipe needs its Hardening Bucket extension.
An ingot is not a detail, screw or finished tool. Trace the specific blocked recipe backwards before buying another stack of ingots. Worker perks can modify output counts; the table gives the base values.
Reserve the next quest and station first
Man of Steel asks for 3 Steel Ingots in the documented quest route. Keep those separate from the 4 needed to build a Steel Anvil. If both tasks are ready, seven ingots cover those two uses; that calculation excludes any tools, armour, collars or later quest costs.
A Steel Zombie Collar also uses 1 Steel Ingot, 1 Blue Crystal and 10 Faith in the 1.007 export. Spend on it when a corpse needs that collar range, not merely because the recipe is visible. Choose the next tool or quest you can actually finish with your current mastery and components.
Why a steel recipe is missing
- No steel supply choice: inspect story access and Jack's current dialogue.
- Ingots owned, no Steel Anvil: unlock and build the station through Steel Smithing.
- Tool grey at the anvil: inspect its individual research, mastery and extension.
- No Furnace III or graphite conversion: those instructions commonly describe the first game. The verified GK2 route here is purchased steel.
- Supply crate requested: make the specific packed item; loose ingots are not every steel order.
