Graveyard Keeper 2 Town, Workers and Orders Starter Guide

Make the Town, graveyard and production loop easier to follow without a fabricated first-day quest route.

Quick Answer

Treat the Town, graveyard and worker production as connected jobs. Pick one active objective, check which day-bound activity it needs, then prepare the materials or workers for that job before expanding elsewhere. Town orders have their own accept, drop-off and collection steps; an iron order that still fails can be a documented bug.

Choose one active loop

Graveyard Keeper 2 asks you to manage the graveyard while reclaiming and rebuilding the Town. The developer describes Town liberation, restoration and automation as linked systems, but does not prescribe a universal first-week route. A useful way to avoid scattering resources is to pick the next visible objective and write down its immediate blocker: a day-bound battle, a material, a worker assignment or a delivery. Finish that small loop before opening several new projects.

Check the day symbol before planning travel. The developer says Town battles happen on a particular day of the week; its combat devlog also says the sewers offer fighting on other days. That does not mean every quest or order uses the same schedule. The board and journal in your current save are the authority for the next available action.

Prepare for Town battles

Town districts are reclaimed through battles and then restored. The official combat preview names barricades, towers and zombie squads as preparation tools, and explains that different districts have different objectives. For example, the Town Square defense and central-street control-point fight are presented as distinct encounters. Before a battle, inspect the stated win condition and what your current materials can actually build. Prepare the defense the game asks for, then decide whether to hold a position or move with the squad.

Once an area is secure, the developer says you can restore housing, shops and other infrastructure. That is a separate stage from winning the fight. If the city looks unchanged after combat, check the restoration objective rather than assuming the battle failed. This is a planning framework, not a list of guaranteed unlocks or exact building costs.

Make zombie work useful

The developer's worker preview says zombies can operate workbenches and semi-automatic factory machinery, and that roles have different skill progression. Start with one repeated job whose input and output you can observe. Confirm the station has what it needs, assign a suitable worker, and watch whether output accumulates or moves on. If production stops, inspect the current station and pending craft before creating more workers.

Version 1.005 patch notes say pending zombie crafts now display when skill is too low and clarify craft-lock or wait-delivery icons. Those indicators are more reliable than guessing at a recipe or assuming every stall is an AI failure. The patch does not provide a universal skill level or work order for every station, so this guide does not invent one.

Finish a Town order

Town orders are a second loop, distinct from ordinary storage. Players describe accepting a request at its board on the relevant day, putting its crate at the Town Warehouse delivery point, confirming the deposit, and returning on the following matching day to claim the result. If you leave a crate in a chest, you may have supplied yourself without completing the hand-in. Read the Town order answer for the community-described sequence and its limits.

Separate a mistake from a bug

If an order remains open, first check the accepted request, the requested crate, the delivery point and the later board collection. Then check whether your case matches the iron delivery issue. The publisher's known-issues list says these deliveries can fail to register or remain locked after turn-in; it does not provide a confirmed player fix. Repeating the normal steps indefinitely is not a proven solution.

Players continuing from the demo can consult the official save-transfer instructions if progress does not appear. Keep a copy of a save before a manual transfer or when reporting a quest state.
