Graveyard Keeper 2 Zombie Farming and Gardener Stands
Set up a Graveyard Keeper 2 Gardener Stand with a shovel, crop tablet, accessible seeds and harvest storage, then check one complete farming cycle.
Quick Answer
Assign a shovel-equipped zombie to the Gardener Stand, place a crop tablet for the row, and put matching seeds in an open garden chest. Leave space for harvests. A worker beside a bed, or a staffed stand with no crop instruction, is not a functioning farm.

Unlock the garden version of the stand
| Requirement | Checked reference |
|---|---|
| Zombie Gardening | After Garden Improvement I; 60 green + 20 blue points |
| Gardener Stand | 4 Wooden Planks + 2 Bronze Details + 6 Bronze Nails |
| First test crop | A wheat tablet and matching Wheat Seeds |
| Worker | A shovel and sufficient Farming mastery |
These are the release-era reference and local 1.007 export values. The vineyard has separate Zombie Vineyard research; a vegetable-garden unlock is not a promise that grape rows can already be automated.
Tell the worker which crop to plant
- Finish the Gardener Stand from the garden build desk. Inspect the zombie, equip its shovel, and use the stand’s worker placement interaction.
- Choose the wheat tablet at the build desk and place it in the designated tablet position beside the intended row. A tablet is a crop instruction, not another stand.
- Put enough Wheat Seeds in an open chest in the garden. The checked planting rule uses four matching seeds per bed; your backpack and crop-storage sacks are not that seed source.
- Leave open chest space for the resulting crops. Observe one planting order before you assign more rows.
Confirm planting, growth and storage separately
A useful test has three results: seeds are consumed and the selected crop appears in an empty instructed bed; the crop reaches harvest state; the gardener collects it and deposits the harvest. Waiting for growth is different from an idle worker who never took the planting order.
Keep enough seeds for another planting. A functioning single cycle does not guarantee that every crop quality and worker perk returns enough seeds for permanent self-supply. Check your stock before expanding. Once a worker has taken a bed’s order, manual planting or fertilizing can be unavailable until that job is resolved.
Find the missing part of the cycle
| Symptom | Next check |
|---|---|
| Worker stays at the stand | Shovel, assignment and Farming mastery |
| Empty bed stays empty | Correct crop tablet and matching seeds in open garden storage |
| Crop grows but is not harvested | Ripeness, worker requirement and a stuck harvest |
| Worker carries crops without depositing | Free space in a suitable open chest |
| Manual bed interaction is unavailable | The gardener may already hold that bed’s order |
A normal crafting Supplier is not a substitute for the gardener’s crop instructions. The gardener handles its planting and harvest tasks through the stand.
Recent garden fixes
Official 1.009 notes address absent-crop harvest errors and gardeners trapped in a repeatedly failing harvest. In that case the worker returns to its station and leaves the failed harvest for you. Compare your platform’s installed build before applying an older remove-and-reassign suggestion. Planned compost automation in the developer roadmap is not part of this bed setup.
