Graveyard Keeper 2 Zombies Not Working: Assignment Checks
Fix an idle Graveyard Keeper 2 zombie by checking its assignment, first queued recipe, tool, mastery, inputs and output before rebuilding the station.
Quick Answer
Carry the zombie to a compatible station and use Put Zombie. Queue one available recipe, supply its ingredients, check that worker’s tool and mastery, then clear completed output. In the Factory, also check carousel power and the conveyor connection. Dropping a zombie beside a bench does not assign it.

Assign the worker through the station
Approach a bench while carrying the zombie. The station must offer a placement interaction; use the prompt shown by your controls. On the recorded PC interface it is E. Open the bench afterward and confirm that a worker occupies its slot. A worker lying on the floor or standing at a different station is not part of this queue.
Run one controlled job
- Remove or postpone a first queued recipe whose inputs or unlocks are missing. Test the first job the station will actually execute.
- Put every input directly into that bench for the test. Materials in your backpack do not feed an assigned worker.
- Inspect the zombie with the secondary interaction shown in your bindings. Give it the tool for the job and compare its mastery with the selected recipe.
- Collect finished output, then watch the recipe progress and one output appear. If manual input fixes the stall, investigate the supplier or conveyor rather than replacing the worker.
Check the worker’s branch, not your toolbar
| Job | First equipment check |
|---|---|
| Wood gathering or wood work | Axe; compare the worker’s Building mastery |
| Iron or coal mining | Pickaxe; compare the mining requirement |
| Smithy work | Hammer; compare Smithing mastery |
| Garden work | Shovel, plus a crop instruction |
| Supply or porter job | Assignment, accessible stock and destination; do not buy a tool to fix a transport route |
A new worker’s talents are separate from the Keeper’s. Changing your own equipped tool cannot raise the worker’s numbers. Use a recipe it already meets before investing in upgrades. A Study Table is not a normal zombie bench; use it yourself.
A worker downstairs needs the right system
A writing-room or laboratory bench uses its own area’s open storage and supplier. A factory machine uses belts instead. Trace one item from its source to the input port: a stockpile full of materials is not evidence that the machine received them. Check the Factory power display before adding more belts.
For a miner or lumberjack, inspect the gathering stand and its separate hauling job. One zombie does not perform both roles. The garden has another rule: its stand needs a crop tablet to issue planting orders.
When to check the installed version
Official 1.009 notes address invalid previous-worker assignments and workers stuck after returning mine or sawmill output. If your setup passes the checks yet repeats that behavior, compare your installed build with the available update for your platform. These fixes are not evidence that every idle worker is a bug.
