Permafrost PC Requirements: Can Your Laptop Run It?
Check Permafrost’s 16 GB RAM, 30 GB storage and official PC specs, then identify your laptop GPU before buying.
Quick Answer
Permafrost lists 16 GB RAM and 30 GB available storage. Minimum graphics are GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 590 8 GB. Laptop compatibility depends on the exact CPU and GPU; desktop names are not mobile performance guarantees.

Minimum and recommended PC requirements
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 (64-bit) | Windows 10 (64-bit) |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3500 | Intel Core i5-12400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 590 8 GB | NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT 12 GB |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 12 |
| Available storage | 30 GB | 30 GB |
These are the current official Windows specifications. CPU and GPU names are alternatives within each tier. Every component matters; additional RAM does not compensate for an inadequate graphics card. Steam does not attach a resolution, graphics preset or frame-rate promise to this table.
Can your laptop run Permafrost?
The published GPU names are desktop models. A similarly named laptop GPU is not automatically equivalent: power limits, memory and cooling can differ. Compare the exact model and dedicated video memory, rather than the vendor or total shared memory.
- Open Settings → System → About. Note the full processor name, installed RAM and whether Windows is 64-bit.
- Open Task Manager → Performance and inspect every GPU entry. A laptop may show integrated graphics and a separate GPU. Record the dedicated GPU model and dedicated memory.
- Compare each part with the minimum column. Integrated graphics alone are not covered by the listed dedicated GPUs.
- Check free space on the intended installation drive. The store specifies 30 GB available.
For an unlisted model, use a reliable comparison for that exact mobile GPU and power configuration, or ask the publisher about your hardware before buying. This page does not claim laptop benchmarks or guaranteed FPS.
Check DirectX and the selected GPU
Search Windows for dxdiag. Its System tab shows the DirectX version; Display tabs identify graphics devices and drivers. Microsoft explains these checks. An installed DirectX version alone does not prove that the GPU meets the requirements.
For a laptop with two GPUs, inspect Settings → System → Display → Graphics. Where available, choose the installed game executable and its high-performance GPU preference. Keep the laptop connected to power and follow its manufacturer’s cooling guidance. These checks help avoid selecting integrated graphics; they do not upgrade inadequate hardware.
Storage, download size and other systems
30 GB available space is a storage requirement, not a measured download size. Compression, patches and temporary installation files can change transfer size and disk usage. Leave room for updates. Neither official column explicitly requires an SSD, so an SSD requirement should not be added to this table.
The table is for Windows. It provides no native macOS or Linux specification and no verified Steam Deck performance target. A Windows hardware match is not a compatibility promise for another operating system. For an installed Windows copy that crashes, follow the launch and GPU crash checklist.
