Save at a telephone
Interact with a landline, dial 100 and choose a manual slot. Keep an early chapter save and a recent working save separately. Check the slot location and time before replacing it. A story call is a different action and does not automatically create a manual save.
Autosaves follow objective progress. Optional exploration may not update them, so check the recorded progress before quitting. Keep a fresh manual save before leaving an area or changing an ending route.

Windows save folder
Press Win + R, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\Townfall\Saved\SaveGames and press Enter. AppData is normally hidden, so pasting the path avoids having to reveal hidden folders.
Steam Cloud configuration lists SaveGame.sav, SaveGameSlot*.sav and ProfileData.sav. Back up the whole folder, including profile data. This Windows path does not imply PS5-to-PC save transfer or shared saves between storefront accounts.

Protect your save before restoring
- Close the game normally and allow pending Steam synchronization to finish.
- Copy the whole SaveGames folder into a separate dated backup outside the live folder.
- Before restoring, preserve the current folder as another backup.
- Restore the complete matching files from an existing backup while the game is closed.
Manual slots preserve earlier story positions inside the game; a separate folder copy protects those slots against replacement or damaged files. Steam Cloud synchronizes data and is not a guaranteed archive of every previous version.
What can survive an overwrite?

| No older copy | There is no verified command that recreates an overwritten chapter. Resume from an intact slot or replay. |
Your account’s Steam remote-storage page may offer synchronized files. Download an available copy separately before comparing it. Its existence does not prove it contains the older progress you want.
During a Cloud conflict, preserve both available copies rather than repeatedly launching and choosing at random. Valve explains conflict handling but does not promise recovery of data that no longer exists.

Saving on challenge runs
Reject The Help requires completing a run without manual saves; the trophy roadmap permits autosaves. Attempt it separately from an ending run that depends on branch saves. For a speedrun retry, return to the main menu before loading: loading from active play does not reliably rewind accumulated time.
Keep previous slots before New Game Plus if you still need an earlier route. A new run restarts the campaign and does not provide chapter select.
