Graveyard Keeper 2 Gratitude and Sermon Preparation Guide

Connect liked trades, Town Gratitude and prayer requirements so your next church visit has a clear plan.

Quick Answer

If a sermon is blocked by too few parishioners, compare current Town Gratitude with Church Quality, then check your prayer. Earn Gratitude from trades showing a thumbs-up bonus or reward consumables while below your cap. Launch-week players report the lower of the two stats limits sermon strength; use a prayer your current preview supports and refill Gratitude after preaching.

The Gratitude-to-sermon loop

This guide starts once you can access sermons at the church. Town Gratitude is the thumbs-up resource shown at the top left of the screen. Launch-week players report that the lower of current Gratitude and Church Quality limits sermon strength, and a sermon uses up your accumulated Gratitude. Raising only one number can leave the other as the bottleneck. The trading discussion explains this relationship and the different merchant counter.

  1. Read your numbersCurrent Gratitude, its cap and Church Quality.
  2. Fill the gapLiked trades or reward consumables.
  3. Check the prayerUse requirements your save can meet.
  4. Preach and refillPlan the next cycle after Gratitude is spent.

Earn Gratitude without waiting for a quest

If quests are blocked, start with goods you already have. In the not-enough-parishioners discussion, players identify burial certificates sold to the tavern and crops marked with a thumbs-up at Herm's as early sources. The same thread describes quest reward consumables and additional trading opportunities as Town shops are restored.

  1. Visit a merchant and inspect which goods currently have the thumbs-up marker. Match the item and quality shown; a better-quality crop is not automatically a qualifying trade.
  2. Select a small quantity of matching goods. Check the proposed Gratitude gain before confirming the trade.
  3. Complete the trade and compare your own top-left Gratitude with its previous value. The merchant's remaining thumbs may fall while yours rise.
  4. Continue only while the preview offers a gain and you have room below your own cap. Stop when the marker or bonus disappears; selling more then does not replenish Gratitude.

If you have a Gratitude reward consumable, read its description and use it when you have room for the stated gain. Save it while already at the cap. Players report merchant allowances replenishing weekly; if one seller is exhausted, check another restored shop or keep a consumable for the next sermon instead of selling an entire stockpile.

Once Warehouse orders are available, they offer another reported source. Follow our order delivery and timing checks for that separate task; the evidence does not establish one universal collection time.

Understand the two limits

NumberWhat it meansYour next action
Your current Gratitude / maximumHow much you hold and how much your save can hold.Earn more only when below the maximum; save consumables when full.
Merchant's remaining thumbsHow much that seller can still award before its allowance replenishes.Check the trade preview or another merchant when exhausted.
Church QualityThe other reported limit on the base sermon audience. If lower than Gratitude, inspect church improvements rather than earning surplus Gratitude.

For example, 10 Gratitude with 20 Church Quality gives a base estimate of 10, as does 20 Gratitude with 10 Church Quality. These are illustrative numbers, not starting stats or reward amounts. The first case calls for more Gratitude if your cap allows it; the second calls for more Church Quality. A target above your current Gratitude cap also needs progression that raises capacity; buying more reward items cannot bypass that cap.

Prepare a usable prayer

  1. Read the requirements and current preview for the prayer you intend to use. Check its actual grade and distinguish the minimum to start from the conditions for a successful prayer.
  2. Compare those requirements with your current Gratitude, Church Quality and any active effects. Use the checker below to find a base bottleneck, then verify the game preview.
  3. If an advanced prayer needs more than you can currently supply, use an existing lower-requirement prayer whose preview is acceptable. Keep the advanced prayer for later progression.
  4. When the service is available and the preview meets your goal, perform the sermon. Afterwards, check the awarded Faith and remaining Gratitude, then prepare fresh sources for the next service.

Players in the prayer-choice discussion keep multiple Faith prayer grades and continue using the basic prayer when stronger ones are impractical. A gold item is not automatically the best usable option. This is preparation advice for prayers you already own; it does not supply crafting recipes or a church-unlock walkthrough.

Check your attendance bottleneck

Enter values from your save and a desired base audience. The checker uses the community-reported rule min(Gratitude, Church Quality). It compares that estimate with your target, not a guaranteed success threshold. Prayer effects, penalties and actual Faith or money rewards are not calculated.

Enter your current values to see which stat needs attention.

When the numbers do not improve

  • The trader's number fell. That is the seller's remaining allowance. Check your own Gratitude to see what you received.
  • The reward paper did nothing. Compare your current value with your cap before using another. A full meter cannot accept more.
  • The crop sold but gave no Gratitude. Recheck the marker, item quality and remaining allowance. Players disagree on fixed per-crop quotas, so use the current preview.
  • The church still says too few parishioners. Check both base stats and the selected prayer's requirements. More Gratitude cannot overcome lower Church Quality, and an advanced prayer may exceed your current capacity.
  • The checker meets my target, but the prayer can fail. Re-read the actual success preview. Meeting a chosen audience target does not prove a prayer's minimum, guarantee or effects are satisfied.
  • My Gratitude vanished after preaching. Players report it is consumed by the sermon. Refill for the next service; do not count it as a permanent upgrade.
