Graveyard Keeper 2 How to Remove Unwanted Zombies

Learn what removing a zombie from a workstation changes, why it does not free population capacity, and how to manage unwanted workers in Graveyard Keeper 2.

Quick Answer

Taking a zombie off a workstation does not remove it from your population. The checked release-era system has no general disposal action for unwanted workers. The developers announced zombie cremation as a future feature on October 2; the October 6 1.009 notes do not list its implementation. Reassign the worker or manage your PR capacity instead of trying corpse disposal instructions from the first game.

Removing a worker is different from deleting it

ActionWhat changesWhat it does not establish
Pick up an assigned zombieFrees that work slot so you can move the workerA lower zombie count
Leave it unassignedStops its current workRemoval from the population
Change its equipment or talentsChanges the work it can performA refunded resurrection or a freed population slot
A story hand-in that explicitly asks for a zombieConsumes the requested worker through that questA repeatable disposal method

Do not queue more resurrections simply to replace a low-level worker until you have checked whether a different tool or job would make it useful. The population and the number currently working are separate totals.

Move an unwanted worker to another job

  1. Open or inspect the current station and use its worker pickup interaction. Collect any exposed materials or finished goods before leaving.
  2. Carry the zombie to the new compatible work spot. Do not leave it in a walkway used by suppliers.
  3. For production, supply the matching tool and a recipe it meets. For a hauling role, first confirm that the station has stock to collect and space at its destination.
  4. Observe the new job. Moving it successfully is a reassignment result, not proof that the Resurrection Lab count fell.

A weak crafting worker can still be useful in a transport role whose station does not require the production tool. Compare the actual job requirements rather than judging it only by an old corpse score.

If your goal is to remove the penalty

Read the count and supported limit at the Resurrection Lab. A parked zombie remains in that count. Check the Good Fellow perk and the available PR Machine program before raising another worker; a temporary program must cover your total while it is active.

If you have an active PR program, check its remaining duration as well as its capacity. A larger inventory of steel is not itself a capacity upgrade: it must be used in the relevant machine upgrade and program.

Cremation is a planned change, not a current walkthrough

The October 2 developer roadmap names zombie cremation and a Panic Reduction rework. A roadmap is not a patch that enables an action. Check later official notes and the crematorium’s actual interaction if you play a newer build. Do not remove organs, bury the zombie or dump it in the river on the assumption that those actions delete a worker; the checked mechanics do not support that conclusion.
