Graveyard Keeper 2 Zombies: How to Get Your First Workers
Unlock your first zombies through Dream Dust, then give each worker a tool, a job and a supplied queue.
Quick Answer
Progress Albert the Plague Doctor's Dream Dust task for your first two story zombies. Place a worker at a compatible station, equip the tool that job uses, queue a recipe and keep its inputs available. Making additional zombies uses the Resurrection Room, collars and Reanimation Liquid.

Get your first two zombies
Speak to Albert in the morgue and follow his dream-related task. This story introduces the alchemy room and Dream Dust before it introduces your first workers. Complete it before buying materials for another corpse: an unopened resurrection area is a progression problem, not a missing potion recipe.
- Continue Albert's dialogue about his dreams and inspect the active quest.
- Use the alchemy introduction to study the Dream Dust ingredients, Water and Blood. Load Science at the Study Table; do not spend the entire early supply studying unrelated items first.
- Make Dream Dust at the laboratory and return it to Albert. Follow the resulting dialogue and access the first story zombies.
- Carry one worker to a compatible job and complete a small production run before expanding.
Assign a job that can start
Carry the worker to a compatible station and use its placement interaction. Open the worker or workstation panel and equip the appropriate tool. Read the recipe requirement using that worker's displayed mastery: your own character's skill does not prove the worker meets it.
| Job | Setup | Production check |
|---|---|---|
| Woodworking | Tool requested by the bench | Timber and recipe inputs available |
| Mining | Pickaxe at the Zombie Miner | Output has storage space |
| Bench crafting | Tool matching the bench, often a hammer | Recipe unlocked and mastery sufficient |
| Transport | Supplier or porter job | Connected source and valid destination |
Queue one low-requirement recipe. Watch a complete cycle: inputs should decrease and an output should appear. Only then add repeat work. Some crafting benches need a supplier to move ingredients and finished goods; a miner's output and a porter's transport are separate jobs.
For the first two workers, start with a bench you use often, such as your wood-processing line, and use the second for its supply or collection job if that bench requires one. Confirm a complete cycle together. If the bench can run without a supplier, put the second worker on another unlocked job with reliable inputs. Save mine staffing for when the mine is actually open.
Check the equipped tool
Move the correct tool into the worker's equipment and re-read its station panel. A tool on your own toolbar does not equip every zombie. A grey recipe may indicate missing research, insufficient mastery or waiting for materials. Follow the displayed reason before changing the line.
Expand after the first line works
Additional workers need a suitable corpse, a collar, Reanimation Liquid and a prepared Resurrection Table. The separate central device starts resurrection on Envy, the green snake-symbol day. Follow the complete resurrection sequence before stripping organs from a corpse you intend to use.
When a worker stops
- One item, then idle: inspect whether the queue finished. Repeat production needs a continuing queue and inputs.
- Waiting for delivery: inspect the local chest, supplier and route. Another worker cannot fix an empty bench.
- Insufficient mastery: check the assigned worker's tool and requirement.
- Ore stays in the mine: inspect the porter and receiving storage; production and transport are separate.
- Gathering stops after carrying the worker: compare the installed build with official fixes in PC 1.009 and console 1.009.1.
