Flint gathering

How to Get Flint in Permafrost

Find the Flint Boulder in Bone Cave, use the correct pickaxe and check the Flint gain before crafting at a Workbench.

Quick Answer

Mine a labelled Flint Boulder in Bone Cave with a compatible pickaxe. The verified footage uses a Refined Stone Pickaxe. Watch for the Flint gain, then use 2 Flint + 4 Wood at a Workbench for a Flint Pickaxe.

Prepare a pickaxe before looking for Flint

Flint comes from a named Flint Boulder. The recorded mining below uses a Refined Stone Pickaxe; an axe is the wrong tool. Bring a usable pickaxe and confirm the boulder shows the usable pickaxe prompt before spending swings.

The opening inventory crafting list includes a Stone Pickaxe costing 2 Stone + 4 Wood. Open the inventory with TAB to find that starter recipe. The ordinary crafted pickaxe and the refined tool shown in the mining footage are different item names; the screenshots demonstrate the refined variant, rather than claiming that both were tested here.

Find the labelled boulder in Bone Cave

Follow the Dog Days quest to Bone Cave. In the recorded route, the dog is rescued first and New Home → Exit Bone cave becomes the active objective. While walking through the cave toward the exit, inspect the rounded boulders between the tall cave pillars. The verified mining spot below is still inside the cave.

Move close and point at the rock until its name appears. Choose Flint Boulder, not an ordinary rock or another ore. The snowy cave surfaces can look similar; the on-screen name and tool prompt are more useful than color alone. Watch the cave approach · 40:30 ↗

The white pickaxe prompt and Flint Boulder label identify the correct resource. The equipped tool name is visible at bottom right. Gameplay: Miss Pink Plays / SpaceRocket Games · 40:35 ↗

Mine until the Flint gain appears

  1. Equip the compatible pickaxe. In this footage the player changes from an axe to the Refined Stone Pickaxe.
  2. Aim at the labelled Flint Boulder and use the left mouse button shown by its break prompt.
  3. Continue striking as its bar falls. Watch for the Flint gain on screen; do not treat a weapon swing alone as proof of gathering.
  4. Check the inventory for Flint before returning to build. The recorded boulder breaks and the resource gain appears without a separate loose-stone pickup step.
Success check: the boulder breaks and the recorded screen shows +6 Flint. This is one observed result, not a guaranteed yield from every node. Gameplay: Miss Pink Plays / SpaceRocket Games · 40:41 ↗

If the prompt indicates the tool cannot break that boulder, confirm both its resource name and your equipped tool. Avoid repeatedly hitting a different ore or using an axe simply because the shapes look alike. Check the tool’s condition and mining capability if your current build behaves differently.

Turn the first Flint into a Flint Pickaxe

At a Workbench, the recorded Flint Pickaxe recipe requires 2 Flint + 4 Wood. The Workbench list also shows a Flint Axe and Flint Shiv, but crafting another tool will not satisfy a pickaxe objective. Save at least the pickaxe recipe’s materials if that is the tool you need next.

Workbench recipe: Flint Pickaxe is a separate row from Flint Axe and Flint Shiv. Red Wood counts mean the player is short of Wood at this moment. Gameplay: Miss Pink Plays / SpaceRocket Games · 53:47 ↗

The shown inventory has enough Flint but too little Wood. If Craft is unavailable, read the owned / required counts rather than assuming the Flint gathering failed. Bring the missing material back to the Workbench and select the exact recipe.

Miss Pink Plays published this creator-key longplay on October 7, before the planned public launch. The visible build is 0.44.1.4539-milestone. It verifies the displayed mining and recipes for that recorded build; future patches may change them. These are video observations, not a claim that GameHelpBase played a purchased launch copy.
