Permafrost Release Date and Early Access Explained
The launch-day update takes priority over the old unlock schedule.
Quick Answer
Permafrost entered PC Early Access on October 9, 2026. Steam shows a purchase button and released status at the 13:51 UTC check. The earlier launch-day delay is resolved on Steam. This is Early Access, with no confirmed full 1.0 date.

October 9: latest launch status
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| PC Early Access date | October 9, 2026 |
| Original unlock target | 14:00 CEST / 12:00 UTC on October 9 |
| Latest update | Steam purchasing open by 13:51 UTC; the earlier delay is historical |
| Observed Steam state | Released; base-game purchase available at 13:51 UTC on October 9 |
| Full 1.0 date | Not announced in the checked developer statement |
The October 9 update says the extra time will bring movement-key rebinding, performance and co-op improvements, and localization fixes into the launch version. These are announced changes, not a GameHelpBase performance test.
Check the live Steam listing for a purchase option and the launch update for current status. The live purchase option and released status now confirm Steam availability.
What happened to regional unlock times?
The original October 5 map listed 5 a.m. Los Angeles, 8 a.m. New York, 1 p.m. London, 2 p.m. Berlin, 8 p.m. Beijing and 9 p.m. Tokyo for October 9. These represented the same original 12:00 UTC target.
The launch-day delay supersedes that schedule. Do not add an assumed number of hours to create a new countdown. Steam is now live. The observed 13:51 UTC check is evidence of availability by that time, not a newly claimed exact unlock minute.
What Early Access means for your purchase
Early Access is a playable game still in development. The Steam developer statement describes implemented core features and plans to expand the world, quests and systems. Features and timing can change during development.
Read the current store description before paying. Decide whether the available content and development state suit you now. If you prefer a finished 1.0 release, wishlist the game and follow updates while you wait.
How long until 1.0, and what about consoles?
The developer intends to remain in Early Access for at least 12 months, while also saying the duration is not yet known. This is a development plan, not a confirmed October 2027 full-release date.
The October 9 date is for PC. The PlayStation Store lists a PS5 version as announced with its date to be determined. Keep the console schedule separate.
Older guides still using August 21, 2026 are out of date for the present PC launch. Use current official announcements rather than a historical tracker.
