Silent Hill: Townfall AUX Room Puzzle Clue

Use the in-room Auxiliary Lines clue. The exact input sequence remains unverified.

Quick Answer

Insert the AUX Disk into the room's PC and read the Auxiliary Lines file. Use its symbols to work through the wall controls, starting with the bottom row.

Published guides disagree on whether those controls are valves or switches. The exact sequence has not been independently verified here; follow the clue shown in your game.

What the AUX Room Puzzle Is

The AUX Room is a late-game area. Published guides describe a task to flush Aux Line B by setting wall controls to match an in-room clue; they disagree on whether those controls are valves or switches.

The room contains the puzzle's own answer, which is the part most players miss under pressure. There is a PC and an AUX Disk: put the disk into the disk reader and open the Auxiliary Lines file. The file provides the symbols used to set the wall controls.

Around the walls are the things you actually operate — a row of them lining the room, arranged in three rows: a bottom row, a middle row and a top row.

How the Clue Is Read

The clearest published description of the method comes from Eurogamer's guide to the puzzle, published on September 24, 2026 — this is a third-party guide, not an official source:

  • I means open, _ means closed. Each symbol on the Auxiliary Lines page corresponds to one valve in the room.
  • Work one row at a time, bottom row first, then the middle row, then the top.
  • Start at the wall near the storage cabinet and follow the directional arrows around the room rather than reading the walls in an obvious left-to-right order — the rows do not run the way you expect.
  • Use the white lines painted on the pipes. They mark which valve belongs to which row, which is the bit that makes the rest of it legible.

If you take one thing from this page, take the first step rather than any sequence: go back to the PC and re-read the file. The clue is in the room, for your copy of the puzzle, and it beats a transcription from someone else's guide — including one from this site.

Do not rely on a memorised string

The Auxiliary Lines file is readable at any time. If you have already closed it, you have not lost the answer — the room still has it. Screenshot the file before you start turning things, and you will not need a guide at all.

What Is Not Verified

No route is printed here — on purpose

Published guides disagree about what you are operating. Eurogamer describes valves and gives a 26-symbol sequence with I as open and _ as closed. Another outlet describes three walls of red switches flipped up and down. A third describes switches matched to directions. A valve you turn and a switch you flip are different objects, and a flat 26-symbol string does not obviously map onto a puzzle described as switches in rows.

We have not played it, so we cannot settle that disagreement, and we are not going to pick the description we like and present it as the answer. A wrong step list is worse than a missing one here: you would follow it, it would fail, and you would have no way to tell our mistake from your own.

Two things are worth saying plainly about that gap. The reading method above — the clue file, the I and _ markers, three rows, bottom first — is repeated across the published guides and is the part you actually need. The specific route is the part in dispute, and it is also the part you do not need, because the game hands it to you in the room.

How to Help Verify It

If you have solved the AUX Room puzzle, the details are more useful than the conclusion. What would close this page out properly:

  • Whether the elements are valves you turn or switches you flip, and what the two states are called on screen.
  • How many there are per row, and which wall each row runs along.
  • Whether a mistake can be undone or the puzzle reset.
  • A screenshot of the Auxiliary Lines file and the solved wall.

Send it to [email protected] with the page URL. Once the route can be checked against the game as it actually ships, the sequence goes on this page and the warning above comes down.

The reading method comes from third-party published guides that agree on it; the exact route is withheld because those same guides describe the puzzle's elements differently. GameHelpBase has not played the game and has not solved this puzzle.
