Wild West Pioneers Main Quests, Side Adventures and Tutorial Help
The quest journal points toward the story, while side adventures and tutorial guidance serve different purposes.
Quick Answer
The developer separates Wild West Pioneers quests into a main story chain, clearly marked side adventures, and tutorial guidance. The main chain points you toward what matters for the story without requiring a rigid city-building order. Side adventures are signposted as detours; tutorial quests were moved aside for players who do not need them.

Follow the main chain for the story
In its September 4 developer spotlight, the team says the main chain now focuses on the story and directs the player toward exploration and a more personal plot. The journal indicates what is important, while leaving room to work through town systems at your own pace. A slow production chain does not automatically mean you chose the wrong story quest.
When deciding what to do next, compare the current main objective with your settlement’s immediate shortage. Progress can involve both narrative travel and maintaining a town able to support the journey.
Recognize an optional detour
The developer says side adventures are labeled so that you know you are moving away from the main quest. They give you information about the kind of activity before you choose it. You can follow one immediately or save it for later; a side story is not described as a mandatory gate for every main objective.
Use guidance only when it helps
Tutorial quests were separated from the main chain for players who already know city builders. The Tutorial Assistant can still help when you want written or video guidance; the official playtest notes say declining it no longer removes access permanently. Our assistant answer explains the known status without guessing an unverified menu location.
For the broader settlement and Journey loop, see the frontier progression guide. It is a different question from the journal’s story and side-adventure labels.
