Wild West Pioneers Road Deletion — What the Notes Confirm

Road deletion was the single loudest complaint of the open playtest. The developer's notes answer it in two places, dated, and they do not quite agree with each other.

Quick Answer

Road deletion was the most repeated complaint of the September 2026 open playtest, and the developer responded to it in the Playtest Hotfix of September 9, 2026, in these words: roads can now be trimmed anywhere along their length, not just at the first or last segment.

Two things to know before you rely on that. The Playtest Retrospective of September 18 still describes free middle-trimming as something being worked on — the two official notes do not agree. And no official source documents the key or menu path for removing a road, so this page does not print one.

What the Official Notes Say

The Playtest Hotfix of September 9, 2026 has a section headed Roads & Building. It says:

  • “Roads can now be trimmed anywhere along their length, not just at the first or last segment.”
  • “Roads are now removed automatically when you move or destroy a building.”
  • “Roads placed automatically by buildings are no longer snapping targets.”
  • “Buildings now show a highlight in building view when they're connected to a road that has no link to the wider network.”

That last line is the one to remember when something stops working: the game will tell you when a building’s road does not reach the wider network. If you are debugging a supply problem, switch to building view and look for the highlight before you start demolishing anything.

The Two Notes Do Not Agree

Two official notes, two different pictures

Nine days after the hotfix, the Playtest Retrospective of September 18, 2026 says: “In the original version, you had to trim the road only from the end. This proved to be quite restricting to many of you. With your feedback in hand, we are now looking into improving the system to support free trimming anywhere along the road, including the middle.”

Read one after the other, the hotfix describes free trimming as shipped and the retrospective describes it as still being improved. Both are the developer’s own words, neither was edited afterwards, and we are not going to resolve the contradiction by picking the one we prefer. It is possible the hotfix landed, feedback showed it was not complete, and the retrospective is describing the next pass at the same problem — but that is our guess, not their statement.

What Players Still Report

After the hotfix, players were still hitting the old problem. A thread started on September 17, 2026 reports that some road sections cannot be removed directly: “There are situations where you can't remove a section in the middle of a road and first have to delete connected pieces before it lets you remove the part you actually want. Bridges seem to be particularly problematic.” A staff reply on the same thread thanked the player and said the feedback had been passed to the team, without describing a fix.

So: treat “you can trim anywhere” as the intended behaviour rather than a guarantee. If a specific middle section will not come out, you are describing the same thing the playtesters did, and removing a connected piece first is the workaround they describe.

Finding the Control in Your Build

This is where the page stops, and it is deliberate. No official source publishes the key, button or menu path for deleting or trimming a road — not the patch notes, not the store page, not the developer replies we could find. So there is nothing here to print that would not be a guess.

Where to check instead, in the order we would try:

  • The game’s own controls list. The one source guaranteed to describe the build you are actually running.
  • Building view. The hotfix ties road feedback to building view, so the road tools are likely to live alongside the other build tools rather than in a separate mode.
  • The Tutorial Assistant, whose reworked layout the same hotfix mentions — see reopening the Tutorial Assistant.

Current Status

  • Trimming anywhere along a road is stated as shipped in the Playtest Hotfix of September 9, 2026.
  • Free middle-trimming is described as still being improved in the Playtest Retrospective of September 18, 2026.
  • Players still report middle sections that will not delete, with bridges called out specifically.
  • The exact control is undocumented in every official source we checked.
  • This page will carry the steps as soon as they can be confirmed against the shipping build, and the date above will change with them.

Both quotes come from the developer's own playtest announcements, dated and linked above. The road-deletion controls are not documented in any official source, so this page does not print any.
