What a dialogue choice can change
Yes, choices matter in particular side stories. They can change the response you hear, an NPC’s attitude, a civilian’s fate or a quest reward. Remedy told preview press that the main campaign has one ending; this is different from saying every conversation has the same result.
| Choice type | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Main campaign | One main ending, according to Remedy’s press explanation; dialogue can still change how Dylan responds. |
| NPC conversation | Different information or reactions. There is no verified universal “best response” for every NPC. |
| Side-story decision | Some branches change a character’s outcome or the reward. See the spoiler examples below. |
| Karaoke response | Correct choices are required to save everyone and earn the survival trophy. |
You do not need a morality-score build or a complete dialogue-perfect run to reach the main ending. For an optional conversation, choose the information or tone you want. For a quest asking you to host, contain, rescue or operate an Altered Item, read the decision before confirming.
Before a consequential choice
- Finish the investigation clues before going to the final conversation. In Crossing the Threshold, the Security Station footage and the Field Hospital evidence are useful to the Wilson discussion.
- Check the actual objective. “Quest completed” and “everyone survived” can be different success conditions.
- If you want to compare outcomes, preserve the current profile and identify an earlier suitable save before making the choice.
There is no general dialogue-undo button documented for every choice. Loading an earlier save replays from that save’s progress. New Game Plus offers another run for different side-story outcomes; it does not instantly reopen every completed conversation.
Three important examples · side-story spoilers
The Complete Set: same Artifact, different civilian outcome
After you place the set, turn off the four ordinary speakers and speak to the civilian. The final subwoofer interaction offers two choices:
| Final choice | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Turn the subwoofer off | The civilian collapses. The quest can complete with Untapped Bout Guard. |
| Turn the volume up | Several voices speak through the civilian. Finish the additional “Talk to the Civilian” objective; the Artifact reward is also Untapped Bout Guard. |
The louder branch is not evidence of a straightforward rescue. These are endings to one side story, rather than alternative main-game endings.

Crossing the Threshold: the host decision changes rewards
At the Warehouse conversation, hear Wilson out and choose to carry AVP-3 back yourself if you want the rewarded route. The published response sequence is: ask what he did, mention the CCTV evidence, say you believe him, then offer to take the entity.
Interact with the current host after that conversation, then take AVP-3 to the yellow Threshold square at the Dig Site. The completed delivery grants Sensory Restraint Hood and Untapped Practice Knot.
Choosing containment or accusing Wilson leads to a different conclusion without those two items in the published branch accounts. Believing him alone is insufficient: volunteering to host AVP-3 is the crucial later decision. These Wilson outcomes are cross-checked from published quest guides; the comparison video below demonstrates the Complete Set decision.
The Party Won’t Stop: a completed quest can still lose a trophy
The Karaoke prompts are consequential responses. A wrong choice can kill a partygoer, so the quest finishing is not enough for Be What You Want to Be. Use the Karaoke response guide and reload an earlier save if a response goes wrong.
Check the survival trophy in your platform list after the performance. The broader trophy guide explains the recovery and completion route.
Compare a decision without confusing its rewards
The Complete Set is a useful example of how outcomes and items differ. Both options can award the same Artifact, but the civilian’s scene changes. Keep three questions separate: did the objective complete, what happened to the character, and which item or trophy unlocked?
Replay and current-version notes
Use an earlier suitable save to revisit a specific choice, or start a new run after finishing the campaign. New Game Plus resets quest progression, so you play back to that conversation while retaining your combat build.
Version 1.4.0 fixes silent-response dialogue and a NG+ line where Zoe incorrectly congratulated Dylan for a Karaoke rescue. Those fixes are a reason to distinguish a spoken line from proof of the world state. The same update adds unlimited NG++ and seven profile slots.
