Is official Photo Mode available?

As of October 9, 2026, Remedy’s announced plan is November 2026. Its September 25 roadmap gives a month, not a specific day. The original Control’s photo tools do not establish a Resonant shortcut, camera range, filter list or export resolution.

For now, platform capture saves a picture without installing a mod. It captures your current view, without providing a free camera or freezing combat.

Prepare a cleaner gameplay capture

  1. Choose a safe, stationary scene and position the ordinary gameplay camera.
  2. Open Options → Interface and hide unwanted HUD elements. Note the options you change.
  3. Return to gameplay before capturing so the menu is not in the image.
  4. Use the platform method below, then inspect the saved result.
  5. Restore health, objectives, crosshair or other information before resuming normal play.

Hiding HUD changes the overlay, not the scenery. A screenshot cannot remove Dylan, an enemy or an effect afterward. For a bug report, leave relevant HUD and quest text visible.

Capture and find the image

Platform / toolTake the screenshotFind or save it
Steam on PCPress the configured screenshot hotkey (F12 by default), with Steam Overlay enabled.Open View → Recordings & Screenshots in Steam and select the capture. This avoids guessing a user-specific path.
Windows capturePress Windows + Shift + S and select the game area. The image is copied to the clipboard. Paste into Paint with Ctrl + V, then Save As PNG or JPG in your chosen folder.
PlayStation 5Press Create on DualSense, then select Take Screenshot.Open Media Gallery from Games home. Attach a USB drive and use More → Copy to USB Drive to export a selected capture.
Xbox Series X|STap Share with the default screenshot mapping.Double-tap Share to open the capture library. Remapped controllers can have different actions; check Xbox Accessories.

The Windows clipboard method needs a saved file. Paste and save the image rather than assuming a game-specific folder was created. Steam, console captures and the PC mod below have different destinations; there is no universal “Photo Mode folder” for all of them.

Optional PC mod: a separate feature

kkyleeb21’s Photo Mode in Game is a community mod, separate from Remedy’s planned mode. The author lists version 2.4.2, tested on game 1.4, Steam build 25673981. That is the author’s compatibility report, not a guarantee for every store build or future patch.

Follow the current loader and installation instructions on the author’s page if you choose it. The documented default entry is P or L3 + R3; its shutter is B or a tap of Square / X. The author says its shutter saves numbered PNGs in Documents\CONTROL Resonant. These controls and folder apply to the mod, not an official console feature.

The author restricts it to normal gameplay, excluding cutscenes, conversations, loading and fast travel. For quick screenshots, the platform methods avoid mod setup.

Missing buttons or screenshots

  • No official Photo Mode entry: the feature is still planned for November. This does not mean your save is broken.
  • F12 does nothing: check Steam’s In-Game screenshot key and Overlay settings. Windows clipboard capture is a separate fallback.
  • Share performs another action: check Xbox Accessories mappings.
  • The image contains a menu: close it and capture the gameplay view again.
  • A mod shutter fails: check the author’s current version and compatibility notes; its controls do not apply to the console game.

Official roadmap and capture instructions

Checked October 9, 2026. Official Photo Mode’s controls and export destination need verification when its update ships. This page covers what you can capture now.

Freeze Frame is an in-game camera quest, separate from saving your own screenshots.
