Co-op player limit, proximity chat and radio setup
Quick answer
Species: Unknown supports one to four players. Use the radio for distant communication; proximity voices are affected by distance and obstacles.

Set up communication before the contract
Check the Radio binding in Settings > Controls rather than relying on another player's keyboard layout. The proximity-chat update assigned V for new players but warned that existing saves could retain an invalid or older binding. Hold the configured radio button when a teammate is beyond normal voice range.
In a session, the Crew Members tab lets you adjust individual voice volume. Audio Input Gain controls your own microphone sensitivity, while Voice Chat Volume controls the overall voice level. A silent teammate may need a binding or input check rather than a new lobby.
Public teams and player limits
Preferred communication languages and microphone status are displayed in the public-session list. Use those indicators when choosing a group. Agree who will lure a creature, who will operate containment and who will restore power before splitting up.
The official limit is four; update 0.20 treated overcrowded lobbies as a bug and attempted a fix. More-player mod videos do not establish official support or current compatibility. For push-to-talk-style communication, the documented Radio Only voice mode mutes your outgoing proximity microphone while retaining radio use and incoming voices.
