CONTROL Resonant Respec: Reset Items, Abilities and Weapon Forms
Change a CONTROL Resonant build without wasting Reset Items: when to respec, where to reset, item sources and free weapon-form swaps.
Quick answer
Use a Reset Item at the relevant upgrade menu in The Gap to refund that progression category. Swapping between already unlocked weapon forms in Loadout is free. Check the reset’s scope before confirming; one item does not automatically reset your entire build.

Check whether a reset is necessary
An unlocked form can be equipped from Loadout without resetting its upgrades. Spend a Reset Item when you actually want to refund a progression category or change a mutually exclusive combat-ability choice. Buying another form with the required materials may solve a weapon preference without a reset.
How to respec in The Gap
- Keep at least one Reset Item available and decide which part of the build you want to replace.
- Travel to The Gap and approach the relevant upgrade interaction: Aberrant, Talents or Combat Abilities.
- Read the reset action and its displayed scope. Hold the control shown by your bindings and confirm the cost.
- Reallocate the refunded progression in that category. Check Loadout afterward so your intended forms and abilities are actually equipped.
Resetting one category does not automatically rebuild the others. The form and finisher upgrades belong to Aberrant progression; changing a combat-ability branch is a separate decision. Do not interpret a reset as a way to replay a completed side-quest dialogue.
Where to get Reset Items
- Vendors: inspect available stock and the current quoted cost. The launch hotfix permanently reduced the respec cost and increased stock; old guide prices are not a reliable current shopping budget.
- The Artist: Remedy changed the first Resonant’s reward from one Reset Item to two in the launch hotfix.
- SHÜM: first-place cabinet rewards include a Reset Item. Check the cabinet’s own rules and board; completing a level alone is insufficient.
If the build still feels weak
On 1.4.0 and later, check Build Power at the bottom left of Loadout. It reflects unlocked combat progression, not just the attack form you currently selected. Compare your progression with the encounter before spending another reset. Use the early-to-mid-game build route for attainable combinations.
