Beginner guide: complete your first useful run
Quick answer
Choose a compact, well-supplied destination, collect equipment and fuel, use airdrops to improve your active backpack, and return to the bus before the growing horde cuts off your route.

Choose a route you can search
Compare the destination’s size, resources and fuel. Compact maps reduce travel between pickups. Use the minimap: blue resource points help with equipment, yellow markers include fuel and crates, and a red cross marks an airdrop. Start the outward search while movement is still easy, and keep the return route in mind.
Improve the active backpack
A useful item needs to be equipped and correctly connected to help. Check selector cells, weapon hand requirements and footprint before replacing your current weapon. When leveling offers an airdrop, choose an improvement you can use immediately rather than a theoretical upgrade that disables the working loadout.
Turn the run into progression
Collect enough fuel, leave safely and reorganize between stops. A completed boss run unlocks more progression than a failed last-minute detour. At camp, inspect what the rewards can unlock and select one next goal: a crafting system, a survivor requirement or a useful permanent modifier. Keep that goal distinct from risky long-survival experiments.
