Build options: crit, chains, fire and character engines
Quick answer
Choose an engine supported by the items you actually have. These are mechanics-led options rather than tested universal winners: preserve an escape and a way to survive reload or activation gaps.
On this page
Compare five engines
| Engine | Core relationship | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Fast-weapon crit | Fast gun plus crit support; Ripped-Out Eye trades range for critical chance. | Short-range exposure. |
| Electric chain | Tesla Coil with electric supports and trigger links. | Marked electric-item count. |
| Fire zone | Flamethrower and movement control. | Enemies leaving the fire. |
| Crossbow triggers | Stuck bolts and repeated on-hit activations. | Enough useful triggers. |
| Vampire melee | Bats, levels and melee effects. | The smaller early swarm. |
Keep the damage description accurate
The developer describes Flamethrower ground fires as dealing a share of the weapon’s damage every second. That is not a confirmed percentage of enemy maximum health. Do not choose it on a promise of automatic health-scaling damage.
Check the full cycle
Judge the build over an entire magazine, reload or trigger interval. If adding a strong damage item removes your only movement or sustain option, the build may become less reliable despite higher displayed damage. Co-op players can distribute the damage and support jobs across their linked backpacks.
