Furnace: smelt scrap, ore and module recipes
A normal batch uses two metal inputs and produces one ingot overnight. Fit the right special module before trying the three-input or junk recipe.

Set up the first batch
Obtain the Furnace from Dr. Jackson and give it space in a compatible bay. Supply a charged energy cell, insert the materials for one recipe, and leave room for output. Read energy draw before ending the day. In the morning, inspect the ingot and remaining inputs instead of assuming that sleeping always ran the machine.
Choose the feedstock
| Mode | Input | Expected result |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 2 Scrap Metal | 1 lower-purity ingot |
| Standard | 1 Scrap Metal + 1 Metal Ore | 1 middle-purity ingot |
| Standard | 2 Metal Ore | 1 higher-purity ingot |
| Blast module | 3 compatible metal inputs | 2 ingots, with purity trade-off |
| Junk Processing module | 6 Junk | 4 Scrap Metal; not direct ingots |
Quality is different from throughput
The machine reference describes Quality as improving purity and Performance as having no furnace effect. A Blast module changes material economy, but its lower purity can reduce sale value. Compare revenue per input and power cost, not just output count. Flux can improve a recipe’s purity; read whether your existing Quality already supplies the same benefit before consuming it.
If nothing appears
Check charge, compatible ingredients, fitted special module and free output space. Junk needs its processing module. A standard two-slot recipe is not a three-input Blast recipe. Separate machine operation from repairing a damaged item or dismantling it for parts. Start with one batch after a module change, then compare actual input use and ingot grade.
Price the finished ingot
Keep rent outside the feedstock budget. Ore bought at an inflated price can erase the apparent quality gain. Read current market conditions and buyer budget, then record purchase costs, output grade and the actual sale. Recipes above are attributed reference facts, not a claim of our own gameplay testing.
