How to Awaken Visions, Get AP & Equip Abilities
Separate Magicite upgrades from character mastery, then check why a learned ability will not equip.
Quick answer
Magicite awakens a Vision; battles with it equipped earn MRP for that character’s Mastery Rank. AP is the capacity for equipped learned abilities. Spending Magicite is not the same as earning AP.

Which progression system do you need?
| Your goal | System | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Open more of a Vision’s kit | Awakening | Use the required Magicite material. |
| Learn that Vision’s mastery rewards on one character | MR / MRP | Win battles with that Vision equipped on that character. |
| Fit more learned abilities into a build | AP capacity | Check the AP rewards in that character’s Vision mastery progression. |
| Pay for a command in battle | MP | Restore MP; changing the AP loadout does not refill it. |
Use the material the next awakening requires
The in-game help lists Magicite Shards, Magicites and Magicite Crysts. Higher awakening stages require larger material. Open the Vision’s upgrade information and check the next requirement before using a scarce piece. The material unlocks Vision skills; it does not complete every character’s mastery of that Vision.
If a new command appears only with one Vision equipped, distinguish its awakening kit from a mastery ability learned by the character. Before changing Visions for a boss, inspect the resulting command menu.
Equip an ability on the character who learned it
- Open Main Menu → Equipment & Abilities and select the intended character.
- Inspect the Abilities list and the used / total AP display.
- Select an empty slot or replace an existing ability. Choose from that character’s learned abilities.
- Check its AP cost, read its effect and confirm the selection.
- Reopen the battle commands or equipped-effect list to confirm your intended recovery or damage option is present.
Why an ability will not equip
| What you see | Check next |
|---|---|
| Not enough remaining AP | Remove another equipped ability or earn an AP mastery reward. |
| Another hero has it, this hero does not | Mastery is tracked for each character–Vision pairing. |
| It comes from awakening | It belongs to the Vision’s kit rather than a transferable learned mastery ability. |
| It is already provided by the equipped Vision | Its own effects do not need a duplicate AP slot. |
A concrete mastery checkpoint
Cloud’s Databook table records AP +8 at Mastery Rank 4. That is a reason to inspect a reachable mastery reward when AP is your bottleneck, rather than assuming character-level grinding or another awakening item fixes it. This example does not establish a universal fastest mastery route.
