Recruitment chapters, practical roles and the starting points of personal quests.

Quick answer

All eight story party members join through the main story. Their personal quests are separate objectives. Cloud and other Visions do not occupy additional story-character slots.

Confirm the whole quest is finished

  1. Reach the relevant story condition, then visit the listed town or airship location.
  2. Look for the named substory and read its first objective.
  3. Continue through the final return conversation and reward.
  4. Check the quest log before marking it complete.

If a quest marker is missing

Chapter numbers are convenient labels; the current story objective is more precise. For Jake, try the required town-inn stay after the relevant progression rather than assuming an airship rest is identical. For Last Respite, complete it early once available because published references disagree about its late-game availability.

Build from jobs, then choose names

Choose a recovery character, reliable weakness coverage, protection and a damage plan. Revisit that choice when the story removes someone from the active party. Fina and Archwitch Fina explained separates recruitment, healing and the boss encounter.
