EXP, MRP & Ether Farming: Routes by Progress
Choose the resource first, then compare reachable encounters and the time spent recovering.
Quick answer
For character EXP, look for metal Cactuar variants. For Vision mastery, look for regular Cactuars and equip the Vision you want to train. For early Ethers, Siren’s Tower has repeatable enemy drops. Rewards depend on the encounter and bonuses; one result screen is not an hourly farming rate.

Choose a reachable target
| Goal / stage | Where to investigate | Access or preparation |
|---|---|---|
| Early EXP | Valley south of Dwarven Forge, Dirnado | Metal Minituar; bring multi-hit options. |
| Chapter 4 MRP | Zoldaad desert, south of Y’shtola’s sanctum | Cactuar; prepare to Stagger before it escapes. |
| Midgame EXP | Snowy island west of Mysidia | Airship access; Metal Cactuar route. |
| Later EXP / MRP | Island beyond Dragon’s Maw, western Pharm | Dungeon route and a dangerous entrance fight; not a simple airship landing. |
| Chapter 1 Ethers | Siren’s Tower | Mage, Aqua Elemental and Green Slime formations. |
Cactuar result screens: 220 is not a promise of 429
Kingy’s source review records one 220-MRP result without an MRP bonus label and another 429-MRP result with Stagger Finish. Destructoid labels its 429 figure as Expert. Those conditions should not be collapsed into a guaranteed base payout. Neither figure establishes encounter frequency or rewards per minute.
Equip the Vision you actually want to train on each character before starting. Decide whether you need that character’s mastery reward or a different awakening material; MRP and Magicite do different jobs.
Why metal enemies need a different damage plan
The reviewed EXP guide describes metal variants taking one damage per hit and escaping after a few turns. Compare how many hits you can land before they leave, rather than choosing only the largest displayed single-hit power. Later routes carry stronger encounters: do not spend the entire session forcing access to a farm your current party cannot safely reach.
Early Ether supply and MP recovery
The demo-specific Codex reference reports a 12.5% base Ether chance for Mage, Aqua Elemental and Green Slime in Siren’s Tower, per enemy before bonuses. It is a source-reported demo value, not a measured full-release drop rate. Check the encounter’s weakness and budget the MP used to win it.
Tronn’s Restore MP on Stagger is a Mastery Rank 1 reward that returns 5% maximum MP when the user causes Stagger. Victor’s Respite restores 5% maximum MP at battle end and belongs to his awakening kit. Inspect the unlocked and active effects; owning Tronn alone does not prove both recovery effects are working.
Compare two routes using your own results
- Record your starting resource total and set a short timed session.
- Include travel, loading, failed escapes and recovery trips in the elapsed time.
- Use the same difficulty and bonuses for both routes.
- Divide the resource gained by total minutes, then compare. A larger reward per encounter may lose to a steadier accessible route.
Citrine Pot is a one-time reward, not an Ether farm
Give the enemy pot an Ether from the item menu. Repeated attacks are not its solution, and the defeated pot is not a repeatable farming loop. Read the targeting and early-location checks.

Pot targeting: compare the actual item
Citrine’s enemy-target instruction is specifically documented by the Game8-linked reference. Another guide reports party-target use, and mist items target allies. These reports conflict; inspect the item’s allowed targets rather than applying one procedure to all six types. See requests and unresolved targeting reports.
