Mods: install, activate and diagnose loading

Choose a compatible release
Check the author’s supported game versions before installing. Demo mods may be incompatible with 1.0. The official 1.0.0.6 security update explicitly warns that some mods need author updates. A mod that worked before that patch is not automatically compatible afterwards.
Manual installation
Use Steam Library → Probably Stolen → Manage → Browse local files. Beside Probably Stolen.exe, open Mods and place the mod in its own subfolder. Its manifest.xml belongs directly in that subfolder alongside the packaged assemblies. Start the game, open Mods, select the inactive mod and activate it. Restart to apply activation; deactivation also takes effect on a subsequent start.
Missing versus refused mods
Missing from the menu: inspect the folder nesting and manifest first. Refused activation: read the reported reason. The developer’s repository requires declared assemblies and capabilities; undeclared capabilities or extra unlisted DLLs can prevent loading. Obtain a corrected package from the author instead of treating every refusal as a broken Workshop download. We have not tested a universal fix for greyed-out activation.
For authors
The developer’s example uses C#, .NET SDK 6 or later and netstandard2.1. Installable files go under Mods; source projects belong under Modding. Use exposed hook points where possible. Consult the linked repository for current API, manifest and scanner requirements, because launch-era examples may predate security changes. Achievement behavior with mods has not been established here.
